The folder picker won't open (or says “The API developer key is invalid”)

Your account is fine — a browser add-on is blocking Google's picker, and you can finish setup without it.

What's happening

Privacy and anti-tracker browser add-ons — Bitdefender Anti-Tracker, Brave Shields, uBlock-style blockers — and blocked third-party cookies can stop Google's folder picker from loading. When that happens, Google sometimes shows "The API developer key is invalid."

That message is misleading. There's nothing wrong with any key, your Google account, or RecordFlow — the picker simply couldn't load inside your browser.

The fast fix

  1. 1Close the picker window.
  2. 2Click Use the default folder. RecordFlow creates a RecordFlow Recordings folder in your Google Drive and archives there.
  3. 3Click Save & Connect — done.
  4. 4Want it somewhere else? Rename or move the folder anywhere in your Drive afterwards — RecordFlow follows the folder, so this works exactly like picking one.

Other ways to fix it

If you'd still like to use the picker:

  • Pause the add-on (or add recordflow.org and google.com to its allow list), then click Change to retry.
  • Allow third-party cookies for google.com in your browser's privacy settings.
  • Try another browser without privacy extensions installed.

Either way, RecordFlow only ever sees the one folder it creates or the one you pick — never the rest of your Drive.
